Know : The Tallest : Tree – Hyperion

Hyperion is the tallest known living tree in the world with a whopping height of 115.85 m (380.1 ft).
Hyperion belongs to the species Sequoia sempervirens also called as a coast redwood tree.
Hyperion is at Redwood National and State Parks, in California, USA.

Hyperion is estimated to contain 530 m3 (18,600 cu ft) of wood.
Hyperion was discovered August 25, 2006, by naturalists Chris Atkins and Michael Taylor.
The tree was verified as standing 115.55 m (379.1 ft) tall by Stephen Sillett.
Hyperion is around 1,200 years old.
The exact location of Hyperion is kept secret to protect the tree from damage.
Researchers stated that woodpecker damage at the top may have prevented the tree from growing further taller.
Hyperion is currently growing at the rate of 1.5 inches per year.

Till 2031, Hyperion will remain the tallest tree. Then, a tree named Paradox will take over, which is the 5th tallest tree in the world now. It is growing at the rate of 7.5 inches a year.
