Know : Irom Sharmila – The world’s longest hunger striker

This solitary hunger striker is about to cross 15 years without food!

Irom Sharmila

Iron Lady of Manipur” – Irom Sharmila (born 14 March 1972) is a civil rights activist, political activist, and poet from the Indian state of Manipur. On 2 November 2000, she began a hunger strike which is still ongoing.

On 2 November 2000, in Malom, a town in the Imphal Valley of Manipur, ten civilians were shot and killed while waiting at a bus stop. The incident, known as the “Malom Massacre”, was allegedly committed by the Assam Rifles, one of the Indian Paramilitary forces operating in the state. The victims included Leisangbam Ibetombi, a 62-year old woman, and 18-year old Sinam Chandramani, a 1988 National Bravery Award winner.

Sharmila, who was 28 at the time, began to fast in protest of the killing, taking neither food nor water. As her brother Irom Singhajit Singh recalled, “It was a Thursday. Sharmila used to fast on Thursdays since she was a child. That day she was fasting too. She has just continued with her fast.”

She has not met her mother since the start of the fast as seeing her mother’s anguish may break her resolve. She said “The day AFSPA is repealed I will eat rice from my mother’s hand.

The Manipur High Court has ordered Rs. 5 lakh compensation for each of the families of 10 people killed by the Assam Rifles in November 2000, in what was later alleged to be a fake encounter. But for the families of those who were killed 14 years ago, compensation is just the first step towards justice.

Three days after she began her strike, she was arrested by the police and charged with an “attempt to commit suicide”, which was unlawful under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at that time, and was later transferred to judicial custody. However, Amnesty International and the World Medical Association both dispute that a hunger strike is equivalent to suicide as hunger strikers “generally hope and intend to survive”. Her health deteriorated rapidly, and nasogastric intubation was forced on her in order to keep her alive while under arrest.

And her hunger strike continues still…

The following documentary by IBN talks about her life and the politics around her.

The sad thing it is 15 years now. Will the Indian government answer her? This is the land of Mahatma Gandhi who remarkably contributed towards the Indian Freedom via non-violence! Will the government consider her request? What is their answer to her?

Creativity : 10 Cutest Cars & Customization Rules

Unfortunately, only a few cars made it to the roads and many of them just remained as much adored cars on Techno-Exhibitions.

Because customization of Cars has many laws associated with it and that varies from country to country. You can read some of the common illegal alterations following this gallery. So when you try customizing your car, always check your state’s law.

In India, you check the following list before you customize.

  • First, get the modification plans approved by the original car maker
  • Modify the car according to the approved plan
  • Get the modified car approved by the original car maker
  • If approved, the owner has to get the car certified at one of three government-approved certifying agencies
  • Once cleared by them, an RTO certificate will enable the owner to drive around town without being pulled up

However, these cars will tempt you at least to go for a ride. 🙂 Which one is your favourite?

10 common illegal customizations

  1. Window tinting

Dark window tinting is one of the most common illegal alterations made to cars. Every state has different laws regarding window tinting and regulations, including light transmittance and location of tinting. Some states are stricter about tinting the driver’s side window and the windshield. For the most part, a light tint is the best way to go and will keep you out of trouble with law enforcement.

  2. License plate frames

Customizing license plates and the frames that keep them in place is very popular. It may seem harmless to have a customized frame that advertises a dealership or your favorite sports team, but you can actually get pulled over and ticketed if the frame covers up the state name or numbers in any way. Tinted and reflective-plate covers are also illegal in many states.

  3. Exhaust

Adding a performance exhaust to your vehicle can make it more powerful, faster, and louder than before. Drivers who install a new exhaust system may have a noisier and meaner sounding vehicle, but you’ll also run the risk of being ticketed if it’s too loud and causes any noise complaints.

  4. HID headlamps

Drivers who want a customized look for their car might be tempted to get a HID headlamps kit to install, but this popular alteration is illegal in all 50 states. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says that no HID headlamps meet the federal photometric standards, so if you install these you may end up with a pricey ticket.

  5. Undercarriage lighting

Undercarriage lighting is a popular, but often illegal alteration made to cars. Adding bright neon or LED lights may be illegal in your state, especially if it interferes with the front and rear lighting. Some states have restricted certain colors and color combinations that might cause confusion or distractions on the road.

  1. Lifts

Lifting the suspension or frame and body of your vehicle can drastically change the way your car looks and drives. As popular as this alteration is, your state may have a limit on how high you can go. Some states set their height restrictions based on maximum headlight and taillight heights and others measure by maximum bumper heights. Depending on the state you live in or drive through, you could be ticketed for an excessive lift.

  2. Muffler delete

Drivers who want to increase the horse power and noise level of their vehicle may consider installing muffler delete pipes. But it’s important to know that every state has different laws relating to muffler delete alterations, but for the most part, it’s illegal. Most states require all vehicles have a working muffler to prevent excessively loud or unusual noises, but adding a muffler delete or similar device to your vehicle is illegal.

  3. Studded tires

Many drivers install studded tires to get better traction on slippery roads during the winter season, but these tires can also destroy pavement. Even though studded tires have been approved by the federal government and received the DOT rating, some states do not allow them on their roads or only at certain times of the year.

  4. Off-road lamps

High-intensity off-road lamps are very bright and very illegal in some states. These 100-watt (or more) lights are often attached to the grille of trucks or mounted on the roof of vehicles. Off-road lamps might help you find your way through the dark wilderness, but they are completely unnecessary for everyday driving. The range, intensity, and light patterns of these lamps are extremely distracting on the road and can cause danger to oncoming traffic.

  5. Cold air intake

This is a common alteration made to mostly muscle cars and four-cylinder import vehicles. Drivers install cold air intake systems for various reasons, but one of the most common is to produce more power from the engine. But this increase in power can result in an increase in fuel consumption and emissions. Your car may seem like it’s running better, but if you’re exceeding the legal emissions limits, you could be in trouble with the law.

The Case of Kawasi Himde : Why should we educate our children about her case?

Kawasi Himde

Kawasi Himde is no celebrity or someone from a cosmopolitan city, she is a tribal woman. A few good media tried to cover her news still. Kudos to the ones who are holding the mic behind the screen to bring her story out. The rest of the NEWS media was busy in covering the IPL and Cinema gossips it seems. They may be right, audiences will show interest to watch a Salman Khan case that will help their TRP, which Kawasi cannot do.

She was acquitted after 7 years of imprisonment when a Dantewada (Chhattisgarh, India) court found her not guilty. Our judiciary system took JUST 7 years to find someone is innocent. At the age of 17, in 2008, Kawasi Himde was arrested for “being involved in the killing of 23 policemen”.

How our judiciary system is going to compensate everything she had lost? There are only loopholes but no law for this!

The real story is horrible even in our dreams. Colours of the Cage A blog covered her story exclusively in an attempt to expose the truth and to get her justice.

In January 2008 just after harvest, as in previous years, a fair was organised in Ramram, the nearby village. Kawasi accompanied her aunt and her other cousin sisters to the fair and to buy ribbons and choodis. There she joined a group of other tribals who were dancing and singing. Having danced vigorously, she soon became thirsty and approached the nearby hand-pump for water. But as soon as she held the pump, someone very forcefully grabbed her. She looked up angrily and was shocked to see Police personnel. They had surrounded her and began dragging her by her hair towards their vehicle parked outside the fair. With hands and feet tied, she was thrown on the floor of the truck and driven to the Police station. (click to continue reading) – Written by Sushmita Verma

Why should we educate our children about her case?

If you are reading this, you could be someone who works in a respectable position responsible for keeping the law, you could be an advocate, you could be a student, you could be an activist, you could be just a common civilian.. Whomsoever you are, as a human being we should have some introspection on ourselves as individuals and as a society.

What are we going behind? What are we supporting? How are we spending our time?

Thousands of cases like this are happening in our country which will not come to our attention. But at the end of the day, it is we all who make the society. Our children are going to become the lawyers, policeman, lawmakers, politicians, etc.

It is our responsibility to educate them the reality. So that they will understand everything and at least try to have some humanity and morality tomorrow. If not our generation at least coming generations may seek to live in the righteous way.

Please share this. Keep educating!

Somebody Called Salman Khan and Some Stupid People

Phunsuk Ramasamy has been jailed for drunk and drive, killing one innocent commuter. The Judgment was given on 4th May 2015, the accident happened on 31 Dec 2014.

So many ramasamy, kuppusamy, tom, dick, harry, ahmeds, davids and bangudus were been jailed for rash driving, drunk and driving and killing innocents. Don’t they deserve a punishment? Why our citizens have not reacted for them?

Now, somebody called ‪#‎Salmankhan‬ has been sentenced to be jailed and many are feeling sad for the judgment calling it unfair!! WTH is this!!! :/ The incident happened on 2002 BC sorry 2002 AD. And judgment has been given so instantly on 2015. Kudos to Indian legal loopholes.

Some blame the poor homeless for sleeping on a platform, comparing them to dogs. (yes seriously a celebrity tweeted this) I tell you “Platform is also not for driving Bhai sab!” It was their bad luck and had slept there, and Salman’s good luck he had not hit a fellow commuter vehicle. What if he had hit someone driving a bike? or an Audi or a Mercedes car by the same mistake as you call to back him? I wonder what would be your reaction! ‪#‎abhijeetsinger‬

Some other gentle human beings’ comments on twitter blaming the victims

kutta Farahkhan

For sure those who crib, do not know what is loss of a life. It could be our family member who went out of home and not returned. Victimized for an accident with no fault in his/her side.

So ‪#‎Shutup, stop‬ being so kind to him because he is an actor. If he had realized his mistake and do service to people, then it is his good nature as a human being. Let him decide on it. It is his personal redemption, he will take care of it. The Court has interrogated everything and given this judgment.

BTW he will approach higher courts to stretch the proceedings, bails, blah blahs.. Do not worry Salman Fans. He will get justice.
As on 1st march 2015, 61300* matters are pending on our Hon’ble Supreme court of India. 259 and 4403 positions are vacant in all the High courts and District & Subordinate Courts respectively.

Supreme Court

Court2Court3

So instead of solving cases at the regional levels, at the place of the crime, we keep appealing to the higher courts. This shows lack of reliability and accountability on the justice served at regional courts? Or it shows when one has money they can stretch time as much as they want to escape justice.

Delayed justice is an injustice.

Books : “The Dirt We Eat” and “Fake Truth”

Two Projects

Many questioned me “What is Propel Steps? What are you doing now? that too in a small town!”

I believe in Einstein’s saying “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

So I answered them “I am building an organization to bring social changes via Education. Propel Steps will enable students and the society by educating them on what is not taught in the current education system!”

Explaining any issue can be simple, but solving the issue is complex. I aimed to do the both via ‪#‎PropelSteps‬. After almost two years of home work, learning and hard work. Now I am changing the gears.

Propel Steps : Education is Everything is shaping up at a great pace and magnitude now.

“The Dirt We Eat” and “Fake Truth” the unique twin projects will be our second milestone after the completion of Voice Of Little Hearts.

I need your support friends. Whatever may be your expertise you can share your knowledge to make this society better. That is what education is all about.

Join us if you like us. We shall make new roads.
