Food We Eat : List of Varieties of Mangoes

Mango varities

Worldwide, hundreds of mango cultivars exist. In mango orchards, multiple cultivars are often grown together to improve cross-pollination. Two of the most important cultivars are the Chaunsa, which is particularly common in Pakistan, and the Tommy Atkins, which dominates the world export trade because it can be easily transported and has a good shelf-life, although it is reputed to not have the same flavor as that of a chaunsa.

The International Mango Festival, held annually in Delhi, India during early summer, is a two-day festival showcasing mangoes. It has been held since 1987. More than 550 varieties and cultivars of mango are featured in the festival for visitors to view and taste. Among these are alphonso, mallika, amrapali, himsagar, malda, balia, chorasya, dhaman, dhoon, fazia, gelchia, nigarin kheria, ruchika and shamasi.

The following are among the more widely grown mango cultivars, listed by the country in which they were selected or are most extensively cultivated

Don’t miss Duncan – Two legged puppy making rounds on YouTube

Duncan is making rounds on YouTube Viral List… Duncan Lou Who is a Boxer puppy who was born with severely deformed rear legs & pelvis. But this amazing puppy leaves us a simple but powerful message ” There is always life to live happy irrespective of what adversities arrives” He is just a source of positive vibes.

The bones in his legs were completely fused by the time he was 8 weeks & there was no way to correct them to save them. We chose to amputate his rear legs making him a double amputee & giving him the greatest chance at a wonderful life when he was just 12 weeks old. Duncan Lou Who doesn’t let his unique differences slow him down & he doesn’t know he is any different. He is now 16 weeks old, does physical therapy every day to correct the damage to his spine since birth, is regularly going to be doing hydrotherapy for life to help support his muscles and he also has a custom wheelchair to give him a second option of mobility. Duncan Lou Who is on a mission… To inspire YOU!

The answers about Duncan by his Caretaker on YouTube as follows

A few other questions I want to answer about him are:

1. Wheelchair topic: Duncan has multiple chairs & he is learning to use one. He is more comfortable out of it because for his entire life he’s done everything every other dog can do on his own. However, the chair will help keep his spine as straight as possible. Currently he has a curve to his spine like a shrimp or seahorse but with all of his therapies & the chair we hope to stop to from getting worse.

2. Pain: Duncan is in NO PAIN. He never has been in pain & we were VERY lucky to get him before his spine turned anymore due to the pressure of his deformities.

3. How does he potty?: Like every other dog does. He has 100% bowel & bladder control. He balances himself on two legs to do his business & no, he doesn’t pee on himself or fall on poop. He does his thing & walks away.

5. Was he born this way?: No. He was born with four legs. However, his two rear legs were severely deformed & the bones had fused in a pretzel like shape. Criss crossed & doing horrible contortion damage to his spine. He also has a deformed pelvis. So, we were left to either euthanize or double amputate. Clearly, you can see his will to live, and we made the correct decision.

6. Why is he so skinny?: He’s not really. He is a 4 month old puppy that’s in a growing stage. He is lean but in exceptional fitness shape. Due to his body shape now it’s best to keep him on the slimmer side as opposed to the chunky puppy side of things. Excess weight is an unnecessary strain on his body. Also, he is completely atrophied in his back end which is truthfully best for him. Not to mention that boxers are chest cavity heavy with narrow hind ends. He eats the same amount any 4 legged, 4 month puppy would eat & he burns those calories as well.
